Reviews

Α multicultural performance for a multicultural audience. But mostly, a performance in support of reconciliation. A significant theatrical moment, a lucid and meaningful performance, mesmerizing and full of energy—with both physical and spiritual acting.

  Ileiana Dimadi, Athinorama

Terzopoulos, at the dawn of the 21st century, offers a new proposal and delves into woes such as war, migration and poverty. Everything is justified in this significant performance, which is characterized by unique aesthetics and ontological depth.

  Penelope Chatzidimitriou, Theater der zeit

The Trojan Women, directed by Theodoros Terzopoulos, is a production that escapes the narrow limits of a spectacle and becomes a personal and global experience of ontological questions. And despite the inevitably ephemeral nature of the theatre art, The Trojan Women is a performance that can’t be forgotten.

  Stella Charami, tospirto.net

The great, innovative director, Theodoros Terzopoulos, made his miracle presenting one of the most successful performances we have seen. An exceptional, emblematic, austere, dense, skillfully beautiful and globally gloomy performance, a magical and ritual condensation of speech, image and sound that liberates the body and the soul.  You can’t help but be shaken, moved and grateful for such a performance.

  Argyro Toumazou, Wiz Urban Guide

About The Trojan Women

The Trojan Women is a protest against the absurdity, violence and atrocities of war, and a demand for peace, solidarity and humanity. Actors from divided cities, as well as from Syria and Greece, take part in the play. The aim of the production is to work as a declaration, highlighting the issue of city partitioning, the division of peoples and the need for reconciliation.

The aesthetic of the performance derives from the relationship between body and myth, time and memory. This relationship brings about the fundamental existential question, “What is it about?”, a question that has motivated artists and viewers over the course of the multiple dimensions of the human enigma.

The role of Hecuba is interpreted by the legendary Greek actress, Despina Bebedeli. The Trojan Women is dedicated to the memory of Jannis Kounellis, the famous founder of arte povera, who was assigned the task of creating the artistic installation for the production.

The Trojan Women was initially a production of the Organisation Pafos 2017- European Capital of Culture, and was presented at the Pafos Ancient Odeon. In 2018, The Trojan Women was presented at the ancient theatre of Delphi, which is under reconstruction and was especially opened to host this performance in daylight, as part of the tribute to Theodoros Terzopoulos, entitled “The Return of Dionysus,” organised by the European Cultural Center of Delphi and supported by the Onassis Foundation.
