The production team combines Terre des hommes with the famous Little Price, both written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. They present the audience with a way to a deeper understanding of the origin of the creative work of Little Prince. At the same time, the director’s dedicated approach was evident when he got the audience to think about life, and lives. I greatly admire this kind of “combinatorial” creation. They deserve huge kudos.

What a wonderful experience. The audience was surrounded by the actors on the stage. Every movement, every expression, every breath of the actors was clear. The form of the production was so pioneering and experimental. When you are at the edge of a desperate situation, what is most important?

We saw the excavation of depths, as well as the good will exploration of humanity. A near-death experience can be scary, dark, and hallucinatory, like taking drugs. This production, with the image of flying boldly acted on the stage, gives the experience some kind of innocence and purity: in such a desperate situation, one would show gentleness and kindness. The experiment of the play, on the one hand, is “action art” that almost abandons stage design; on the other hand, it is an exploration in creating psychology—the creative process of the original version.

The original work is a very delicate story. It is very difficult to re-create when the original plot and philosophical meaning are already deeply rooted in people’s hearts. But Wind, Sand, and Stars did it. While watching the play, you might hear its breath and heartbeats. Just as the fox says, taming needs to be understood from deep in the heart. Not too close, cause it would be boring and hurt. Not too far, cause it would be indifferent. Only at a proper distance will you tame this play. The director tamed the play successfully. With the virtual and reality, life and death, happiness and sorrow, eternity and an instant, he added to the Little Prince some meaningful flavor.

About Wind, Sand and Stars

Wind, Sand and Stars is adapted from The Little Prince, Terre de Hommes, written by beloved French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. We are more curious about what happened to the pilot than in the story of the Little Prince. From the pilot’s reasoning mind to the madness of hallucination, and finally to his rebirth in these eight days, around the connection between memories and lives, a multi-dimensional experimental exploration of childhood memories is what we attend to in this theatre piece.
