About Culture Wuzhen Company Limited
The stylistically unique Wuzhen Theatre Festival has become the most popular theatre festival in China. Having already become a tradition just since the first Wuzhen Theatre Festival in 2013, Wuzhen is now about to host its sixth theatre festival.
In 2015, the drama Lu Xun became the first investment of Culture Wuzhen Co., Ltd. in the field of theatre production, and received grants from the China National Arts Fundand Zhejiang Classic Cultural Project to make its national tour. Culture Wuzhen Co., Ltd, has also invited a number of performances from home and abroad for local children and audiences to enjoy. In October 2015, the Muxin Art Museum, named after the artist, writer, and poet Muxin, was officially opened.
In March 2016, the Wuzhen International Contemporary Art Exhibition was held in the North Silk Factory and the West Scenic District in Wuzhen. Forty active contemporary artists from 15 countries and regions, including Marina Abramovic, Florentijn Hofman, Araki Nobuyoshi and Olafur Eliasson were invited to participate in this exhibition. The exhibits in various media and types including installation, sculpture, video, photography, action art, painting and sound art were showcased.
In December 2016, the first Wuzhen International Project, “A Future in the Visual Arts” was held. The project had four sections, including “Wuzhen International Summit Forum on Future Visual Arts,” an exhibition entitled “A Future in the Visual Arts - Weta Workshop and the World of Dr. Grordborts,” “Wuzhen International Design Competition of Future Visual Concept Arts”and “Wuzhen International Fund Project of Future Visual Arts.” The project aims to build an integrated platform for pioneering works, technology, resources and collaborations in the future visual arts to encourage the sharing of knowledge and technology in the industry, and to seek diverse development of future visual arts from a global perspective.
This series of great cultural and art events has made Wuzhen a “window” onto the extraordinary charm of traditional Chinese culture and the essence of oriental life, as well as a promoter of traditional culture and an ambassador of international cultural exchange. On the journey to revive culture and arts in the future, Culture Wuzhen Co., Ltd. will continuously present high quality artistic performances and cultural exchange projects, endeavoring to become a locally based, leading force in the diverse cultural performance arena in China.
The establishment of Culture Wuzhen aims at carrying on and developing Wuzhen’s local culture, spreading Wuzhen’s history of over a thousand years, expanding resources for tourism, and forming a cultural industry chain with Wuzhen’s characteristics. The establishment of Culture Wuzhen Co., Ltd. adds heightened cultural activity to the tourism usually associated with Wuzhen, giving the town a new artistic image.
Culture Wuzhen will be rooted in local culture, advance and enrich local culture and art, on one hand preserving the treasures of Chinese culture, and on the other, reaching out to the world to become a meeting point for the spirit ofthe cultural arts.
